Hi all!
Love this forum, and after getting a lot of great help from here, I decided to give something back; a guide on how to replace the bulb that lights up the fan control panel.
This is partially cause mine's stopped working, and some forum members have stated that their's also showed it's last glimpse of light.
Note that this guide is written from a "Gen 2" perspective, AKA, Subaru Justy family 1, generation 2 (meaning, after facelift).
First off, you're not gonna have to disassemble the whole mid panel, since Subaru ingenuity have made this almost a tool-free replacement operation.
For convenience, you may need a flat screwdriver (3-5 mm) and perhaps some radio pliers.
Start off by removing the knobs for the fan and heater controls by pulling straight outward.
Now, use preferred tool and put it inside a gap for the panel and pull outward.
It pops off pretty easily, but don't use excessive force. Angled radio pliers may also be useful to do this.
All set! Now, gently pull the bulb straight out, preferably with your hands only, but if you're steady with a set of pliers, this is fine too.
And this is it.
Note by Armageddous: with power off, it's recommended that you bend the small contact points of the socket to get ensure good contact to the new bulb.
For perfectionists; spray some oxidization-remover, wait a few minutes, then spray some WD40 (CRC 5,56 is fine too).
Replace the bulb, then reinstall the panels and knobs in reverse order of removal.
The bulb itself I think is a "T-5 wedge", but it comes in some different setups, like, with socket, without, LED with resistor built into the socket etc.
THOUGH! I recommend you to consider installing a LED bulb instead for higher lifetime and better lighting properties.
To do this, however, you will need to remove the stereo, the ashtray and the frame around the cigarette lighter socket, clock and the panel around previously said parts.
There are 4 (?) screws securing the frame itself, and should come off fairly easy. Sorry I don't have pic's for this procedure. May add this later.
This is my small contribution to this wonderful community.
