Can anyone help i'm at my wits end with my justy. Its been raining in on the passenger side (left), i've worked out its coming in through the heater impeller, tracing it back I think it must be getting in through the air intake hole that is pretty much central under the base of the windscreen. If water gets into the box section under the intake should there be a drain hole to get rid of it? or should no water get into that area? Please help, living in the UK it hasnt stopped raining for nearly 8 months and my little justy is like a mobile swimming pool!!!!!, many thanks Teresa.

Teresa, This is a serious situation, if left too long the car and other fabric's in the car will start having Mold grow on them. This can kill a car because it is unhealthy to drive them. What has happened is that some leaves and crud has been sitting long enough in a little nook or cranny at the base of the front windshield. This causes the metal to rust out and then the water can pour right into the car. You will need to look at the following thread and then fix the rusted out area. You can do this with a piece of metal from another car or even a tin soup can that is opened up and flattened out. If the GOOD metal around the hole is scrubbed clean with a power tool , then the metal piece can be riveted over the hole. When placing the patch have a generous amount of silicone beaded up around the hole under the patch. Then pop rivet the patch into place. subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=howtos&action=display&thread=4914

Hi thanks for the reply, i've removed the plastic panel around the windscreen wipers and it is very clean in there , i've peeled back the windscreen rubber and its like new under there. Mine is slightly different from the one in the photos you have shown in that there is only one oblong hole in panel, its on the right side of the car from the drivers seat. Where does the water that enters the box section drain away to ?because there doesnt seem to be a lot preventing water getting in there apart from a vented section of the plastic cover. Thanks Teresa.

Teresa, I guess you will need to post pics of the area at the base of the front windscreen without the large steel cover on.It is the one that has 2 holes in it for the wiper arms.

So you're saying it leaks from the passenger side of the heater box and travels over to the driver side of the interior? It might be worth it to take the heater duct off that attaches the blower motor case to the heater core case (it's a bendy corrugated snorkel looking thing and comes off very easy). From there you can look up into the blower motor box with a flash light and if the heater controls are positioned for "Fresh Air" (not recirc) you should be able to look up see if there is anything stuck up there.
There air drains at either end of the cowl that direct water out near the front fenders.
The last thing I can think of is it might be a bad seal on the windshield in that front right corner, but it sounds like you've nearly got that covered.
There is always the option of pulling off your plastic cowl cover and trying to flush the drains clear with a garden hose, this will cause water to enter your car but it sounds like that's not really an issue at this point ...

Once again thanks for replying, i,ve taken the heater impeller out and it spotlessly clean, the ducting is clean and dry. I am only assuming its coming in through the air intake hole in the front screen panel because I cant think of anywhere else it can come in . The water enters the car through one of the three screws that hold the actual heater impeller in place. I've pulled the dash away from the windscreen and held a hosepipe directly against the windscreen and cannot see any water getting past the seal. Is there a drain hole in the box section under the plastic panel round the windscreen wipers? because if there is there is no access to clean it out. Many thanks Teresa. If I dont respond it, will be tomorrow when I do its 11.30pm here and its time for bed!!!!

Yes in that "box" there are drains at either side, and you should be able to flush them by sticking the hose in as far as it will go and just leaving it on for a while. If that doesn't work you may be looking in to removing the inner fender covers (plastic pieces that are supposed to block dirt/stuff from flinging up from the wheels) and look up to see the drain and back-flush it.
Again tho as that "box" fills up with water it will start entering your car, it is banked to the driver side to persuade water away from the heater box but they are not perfect (even on new cars)

Ive found the drain holes and they are clear, everything seems fine so its baffling me. I've now rebuilt everything and held the hosepipe on it and up to now its dry. I'll wait for the rain to come along which will be a couple of days away and check it then. I think the next step would be to have the windscreen re-sealed although I dont think that is an issue its just one less item I can eliminate. Are new carpet sets available i've tried here in the UK but cannot find anywhere, thanks again Teresa.

Wow, I can't believe it wasn't the drains. Lastly the windshield, I suppose. I don't know if you can get carpet sets, I have never found one. When my car had a bad water leak I took my carpet out and used a carpet cleaner on it then let it dry for a few weeks.

Hi i've finally sorted the raining in problem on my justy, after checking the drain holes in the front box section, having the windscreen re-sealed, all to no avail. Unbelievably the problem was so simple, the black plastic panel at the base of the windscreen that runs the width of the car and wraps round the wipers is held on with 6 or so fixed push in plugs and 6 or so removable plugs, one of the removable ones is directly above the heater motor and water was passing past that one and going directly into the heater motor and then straight into the passenger side of the car. Its took me ages to work it out and a small amount of silicone has solved it. Once again thanks for your help its nice to know people are out there willing to help. Regards teresa.

Wow! I am impressed. The simple solution always seems to be the answer. You may save some people the headache down the road. Terry
