I've said it before, and I'll say it again, cutting springs is dangerous and I doubt you will have any insurance if when (not if) you have an accident in it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, cutting springs is dangerous and I doubt you will have any insurance if when (not if) you have an accident in it. LOL...what country/world do you live in? I think we do things a little differently from you out here in Cali as cutting springs is a common practice and has been for as long as I've been alive (33 years). Insurance is definitely not a problem...and I only rock liability on my $1,000 cars. If insurance became null/void on modified suspension cars then that would certainly be a big problem in my neck of the woods. Hell, none of my cars ('12 Chevy Cruze Eco...lowered, '05 F-150...lifted) would be covered haha. I gotta say. I signed up on this forum because I always join forums for my cars, but this is the worst community of owners I've ever seen. Not many try to help each other or compliment each other, everyone criticizes each other and no offense (not like anyone will read this anyways), but there's a surplus of dumbshits on here (water pump supercharger anyone?). Justy's are neat because they are small and unique. That's about it. They aren't anything to write home about, but it's nice to see them get some respect. Anyone can go get a Geo Metro or Ford Festiva for the same money, but they aren't as unique (or leaky lol) and that's why it's cool we have a forum. But this is a broken community and it's a shame.

Not many try to help each other or compliment each other, everyone criticizes each other Not entirely true, but sometimes people say things like this: "...this is the worst community of owners I've ever seen." and no offense (not like anyone will read this anyways), but there's a surplus of dumbshits on here (water pump supercharger anyone?). Entirely true, but most of those people are on here for a short amount of time. But this is a broken community and it's a shame. Also not entirely true, but once you have been on here longer that will be easier to see. People do have diverse opinions on here, some are more constructive than others, and peer review can be harsh. If you don't like an individuals choice of behavior, then leading by example tends to be a good principle and challenging those who are negative can be constructive even if it involves conflict. Oh, and sweet Justy by the way.

Ferox...I totally respect that response. I know I came off harsh, but it's out of frustration. Your points were well taken and thanks for the compliment.

Sorry if I upset you with my opinion, but I says it as i sees it.
NZ, Australia and most of Europe do not allow suspension mods without certification, not sure about the UK. If you can get away with it where you are all well and good, but in my 25 years as a volunteer rescue fireman I've seen (and had to cut people out of) multiple accidents due to "spring chops". I run an engineering shop and lowering cars is one of the jobs I do regularly. While cutting springs will give you the desired result, and seems ok, there is a real chance that in an accident, or leading up to one, under extreme stresses, the springs can become dislodged from their locating flanges, causing a sudden and irreversible loss of control.
Lowering, if done correctly, with appropriate retention braces will cause no safety issues apart from a change in ride and some handling changes. (better or worse depends on the car) For your own safety, get someone experienced in pro modification to check what you have done and make sure there is no way the springs can become dislodged. Jacking the car up and letting the suspension sag is not enough. Last thing I want to hear is that someone has chopped a couple of turns off the coils and has hurt themselves or another in an accident.
and yeah, I loved the "water pump supercharger" too, you would be better getting a 6" pc case fan and sticking that on top of the carb....

Your car looks nice like that. Like so many other things, cutting springs is just fine in the right circumstances and only if done right. I ran an '80 Celica as my track car for 7 years on cut Supra springs and KYB struts/shocks and it was perfect. That being said, I have heard about people crashing their cars after spending thousands on "proper" suspension parts as well. Statistics are fun. I mean, everyone who drinks water dies if you think about it.
Ironically, lowering "in general" messes with steering geometry, can introduce bump-steer and most people do not account for that nor control arm angle and the like. Leaving the car stock is the best way to avoid safety issues...
Anyway I disagree that there is "nothing to write home about" with the Justy. I have been a fan of them since my dad's best friend bought an '88 GL brand new when I was a kid. I have owned 2, one of them twice and I just feel better when I have a Justy. I sold my '10 Camaro SS 6spd last year but kept my Justy and then got another one. They are significantly more useful and for me, more fun to drive (including time on Sears Point in the Camaro). The Justy is light, fun, and when properly cared for an absolute terror on the back roads. I also enjoy both Justys significantly more than the classic Mini I used to have. If you don't enjoy it that's one thing but they are pretty amazing little cars. Definitely something to write home about and much nicer than the Festiva (supported my neighbor's 88 for 5 years) or the Metro "in my opinion" of course.

nice justy '88gl' how does it drive and do they sit ok in the cups?? I cut just a little too much in the rear and was bottoming out over pretty much anything so I made some thick rubber spacers to put above springs. It rides fine now and only bottoms out when I have my two basset hounds in the back and we hit a big bump. I'm thinking about "bagging" the car now just to have fun with it. It would be hilarious.

The rear would be very easy. If it was me I would fabricate 2 metal pucks, 1 that bolts down where bottom of spring would go and 1 that bolts to where upper spring would go. Then bolt the airbag to them. Run the air lines through a hole into the car.
The front is on struts...so you'd either have to modify an existing strut/airbag for like a Honda or something OR fabricate a complete custom front suspension. Too much work either way for these cars.
Just FYI as an update for my cut springs. It's been 1 year since I cut them and I'm still rolling strong. The only thing I've changed is I had to stiffen the rear springs so my fenders don't rub my new wider wheels and tires. I bought rubber spring spacers off amazon and they work fantastic. So easy to install too. I had to use 4 spacers on each spring. They even help the car corner better.

If you look at the posts robsjusty1 has made you'll see that he clearly has a problem with treating people with respect.
Speaking of expecting respect, the 'Spell Check' button on the bottom right is pretty helpful, as well as half-way decent grammar from the country that invented the language is beneficial.
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
How is that for butting in?

As far as a lack of Respect , and general trash talking "Troll" type activity -- -- we have none here now for some reason? ? ?
