Hi everyone im here wondering if i should purchase a justy i saw, mind you it seems to be in excellent condition, im not a rich guy, so id like to know if its worth the buy. Secondly i have a friend who has an old 88 4wd justy that has rusted away he claims that the engine is still good so i thinking transfer his engine and suspension to the fwd justy so i could use the 4wd but heres the question, could i run the justy only on the rwd axles sucessfully? because i see that is isnt good to use it on tarmac Also if i buy it will i be able to find parts? i live in barbados a small country without many justys on the road, its a tropical island so we dont have snow. I also wonder if the 4wd transfer is also possible because i dont know if the underbody has the room in the 88 fwd chassis or it doesnt matter? How strong is the justy dragshaft?

You cannot drive the Justy in RWD (for a long time). Been there, done that.. It worked well for about 3 months, then the gearbox died You can swap in a 4WD drivetrain, no problem

So is there a dragshaft that i can find to fit the justy, like the sambar but then again i would be able to find the parts right?

You cannot drive the Justy in RWD (for a long time). Been there, done that.. It worked well for about 3 months, then the gearbox died You can swap in a 4WD drivetrain, no problem Is this just a ECVT-box problem? Will manual gearbox handle RWD-driving? Im talking about mk1 Justy.

I wouldn't even think of trying it with an ECVT ;-) My Justy had a manual gearbox.

I wouldn't even think of trying it with an ECVT ;-) My Justy had a manual gearbox. DO you have any idea why the gearbox died? I cannot see why it would be the gearbox. The gearbox receives the same amount of torque wether it's in 4WD or RWD or FWD. Wouldn't it be the rear diff that's not use to receive 100 %(less for sure since you never get 100% of the engine power/torque at the wheel) and break?

My guess is the little bevel gear set up, which is housed in the tail of the whole "trans-axle" would fail... given it's not that big to handle 100& of the torque.

Yes Matt, you're correct. I replaced the gearbox (and placed front axles) and everything was alright again.
