My friend has a 1989 Justy with front wheel drive, 60,000 miles on the car. He recently noticed that when coming to a stop it would jerk suddenly, hard enough to cause damage, I thought when I was in the car. He started putting it into neutral before the jerk and that seemed to work ok. He took it to a Lube Stop where they flushed it out and added new fluid - and they found a small bent piece of sheet steel in the old fluid. The jerking didn't stop and now he says it's jerking on acceleration too. What I'm wondering is if it could be repaired or adjusted or is it ruined in your opinion. Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions.

yes it's an automatic with the ECVT transmission. Also, the transmission started acting up after he had hit a large pothole in the road.
