Subaru recommends 5w30 for in town driving and 10w30 for sustained highway driving. Maintenance interval is supposed to be about 6,000km but we have learned it's best to half that.

1500 miles? dang... I guess it's still just 6qts every 3000 miles so about what a normal car uses note taken, don't want the engine in my current justy to throw a rod like my last one...

I hope they know what they are doing (I do not treat my scooby myself, I am a louzy mechanic)

I have found 0w30 has gotten me the best mileage and cooler running temps in al of my other vehicles. How will the Justy react to a synthetic treatment like this? (Its been years since i've had one and I'm getting one tomorrow)

No, a boxer will not fit in a Justy.

I have found 0w30 has gotten me the best mileage and cooler running temps in al of my other vehicles. How will the Justy react to a synthetic treatment like this? (Its been years since i've had one and I'm getting one tomorrow) I think there are two issues here. I will try to tackle the most critical one first. Synthetic oil should be avoided in your Justy and is best avoided in most older cars from the 1990s and earlier. Synthetic oil is a fairly new thing and lacks the viscosity of traditional petroleum oil. That is to say that it is very, very thin (runny). Synthetic oil is best used in engines that are designed to use synthetic oil. What I mean is that these newer engines are built tighter. Not only are older engines built looser but 'old' engines in general (think twenty years or high mileage) are going to be loose anyway. A thin oil will slip right past the valve seals, valve guides and piston rings. Synthetic oil also burns so clean that there's no smell or smoke. Basically you won't know that you're burning/losing oil until your oil pressure light comes on, unless you catch it early by checking your dipstick regularly. The second issue is that a zero-dash oil is too light even if it is conventional. The manufacturer clearly states the recommended weights for the engine when new and keep in mind, your engine is older and even looser now. Click here to see Subaru's recommended oil<---scroll down to Redroo, 5th post Pretty much how most Justy guys & gals do it is to use 10W30 if your Justy is good & strong & tight, otherwise 10W40 or even 20W50 for high mileage/well worn Justys. Many of us use 20W50 and love it. Don't be tempted to risk your engine for another 1 or 2MPGss. That's not what oil is for, my friend. You'll get more MPGs from using light weight wheels & tires and keeping them pumped up hard!

15w40 semi synthetic is what I use, and when I was using 10w40 , the engine didn t sound as good as it should, with 15w40 it quieter and smoother so i think i ll stick with 15w40 here in Malta. I try to take care of my 1994 justy as its entering into its 600,000km mark. sure would like to keep it to 1 million km that would be quite the achievement for this little car as for the past twenty years with its previous owner used it mostly for farm work and quarries so I imagine it took quite a beating. Take care of your justy s yall as they are getting scarce by time (at least in Malta). Change the oil when recommended and listen to the engine once in a while, it might be telling you something Other than that its a solid car! (Except for some rust here and there *wink wink*) Take care and a Happy new year to you all! MrRubburn
