If you look at post 11 in the thread he refers to the brakes and knuckle as "cast iron" and this is not true. There is a big difference between cast iron and cast steel and even bigger difference when it comes to welding on either type. I believe it is post twelve actually where Holland talks about the brakes and knuckles. On production cars like our Subarus, the discs (rotors) are made from iron. The brake calipers are also made from iron and I believe very strongly that the knuckles too are made from iron. I have never heard from any kind of authority nor seen in writing that any of the above mentioned components on our Justys (or other similar cars) are made of anything but iron. I trust you that welding iron may be different than steel but I know better than most people here or anywhere that there is also a big difference in machining iron and steel and there is a reason these things are made from iron: it's easier and therefore less expensive. Talkin' 'bout Justys y'all.
