Hi all[b had some trouble with the ]ECVT slipping[/b], clutch temp light comin on when engine is still cold, and read numerous forum threads about the issue. Checked brushes and found them fine and with lots of meat. However, the brushes were oily - could be oil coming from an overfilled ecvt gearbox, or from a leaking crankshaft seal, bringing up the oil / mist via the starter gear into the clutch brushes area. Wiped the brushes and the corresponding ring contacts clean of oil and put brushes back in. Result: No problems for approx 300km, then the whole trouble started again. Clutch light coming on at random and the clutch slipping at the same time. Repeated above doctoring, drives as new - for 250 km. Brushes oiled up again. Now I suspected that the brushes are riding up on the sticky oil film and therefore loosing electric contact with the sliprings. Took out brushes and cut a diagonal slot with a fine saw into the contact ends of both brushes. Just across from one corner to the opposite, with a 0,5mm slitting saw, about 5mm deep. Take care not to exert any side pressure on the brushes when sawing the slots, as the brushes break very easily. The slot in the brushes breaks any oil film on the sliprings and the electric clutch works fine since 2900 km, in temperatures from "normal" to minus 19 degrees C Hope this helps and saves some people from giving up on the this phenomenal car. Regards, Hangwaiter

Hi There,
Got a similar problem with the clutch i guess. One day the clutch slips and the other day it works as advertised and no probs whatsoever. I guess i have a similar problem with the brushes. How did cut the brushes? did you go from fwd to aft or from side to side??

Ditto! So glad I found this thread! I wasn't sure if the goopy oil on the slip rings and brushes was supposed to be there or not. And I am having the exact same problems that are being described above. I will get to this poste haste. Thanks guys!

... and I went one step further to the source of the goo: Removed the engine and then the transmission to replaced the $8 seal. That worked. Brushes stayed clean, that solved the issue.
