Can anyone tell me whether it's feasible to replace the dead motor in a 1990 fuel-injection 5 speed with the motor from a 1988 5 speed, carburetor.
They seem to look the same except for the fuel delivery system.

That swap will be fine, however what you must do is take the intake manifold off of your fuel injected engine and put it on the carburated engine. There is no feasible way to switch the wiring harness out to make the carburated system work, also you wouldnt like the drop in horsepower that you would feel by switching to the carburated engine. But as far as the 1.2l engine goes if you have another strong lil one sittin around it is a fine swap just be sure and use youre current intake.

Thanks for the info - I've been looking for a new 2dr and have been wondering the same thing. I've overlooked a couple of high-miles fuel-injected ones cause I don't see many of those motors about (ebay, wrecking, etc...). But there DO seem to be plenty of 88-89 motors about. Nice to know, the horizon opens!
