So i picked this gem up for 400 bucks from an auction. It just got a new head because the previous head gasket failed and the old head could not be resurfaced for some reason. Sooo it needs a little love but its now at my school with no transmission because oil from the old head leaked down the side of the block and seeped through the clutch fork boot and pretty much built up a pool of oil on the bottom of my clutch and flywheel. The starter started slipping on the flywheel and chewed up all the teeth. So pulling it all apart to take off the flywheel i discover my clutch on the brink of destruction so i have to replace both. I got a re manufactured flywheel from autozone for 60 bucks which isnt to bad. I just bought a clutch off of ebay for 100 bucks. Its supposedly a "stage 1" clutch but i don't really care if it is or not. Ill show you guys what it looks like when it gets here next week. Here is some picks... Oil cap M.I.A. Transmission before pressure washing, can't really tell how bad it is cause my camera phone sucks

Nice Justy, looks just like mine. Except yours is a GL (lucky!). You've got better seats, the second mirror, and the rear wiper. Even with the clutch and flywheel issues, it's a good deal for $400. Well done!

Starter is good. I got a new solenoid for 20 bucks. The gear is made of some kind of hardened steal so it didnt get as messed up as the flywheel.
Also i pulled out my whole motor today so im gonna clean it up

i got one! anyone have any ideas about lightening up the flywheel? this friggin thing ways a ton The Justy flywheel would be lightened the same way any other flywheel would be lightened. The flywheel is robust because it needs to be. An inline 3-cylinder engine has enormous vibrations of the first and second orders and to keep it from cracking in half, it requires a balance shaft and a flywheel with lot's of mass. If you use your car as a daily driver and floor it below 3000 RPM as a regular habit as most of us probably do, then I think you might be disappointed with a really light flywheel. Despite the Justy having extremely low gearing, it doesn't have enough torque off of idle to let out the clutch and motor away. Most of the time you'd be facing a stalled engine. Multiply that by ten if you remove too much weight from the flywheel. Maybe just shave a few pounds....?

i am currently using a lightened flywheel on my daily driver. I'm not sure of the exact amount that it is lightened as i bought it from Justyracer. I would estimate around six to eight pounds, but have no idea. I prefer driving with it as opposed to the heavier flywheel. Even though as S.j. mentioned it is easier to stall but not in ridiculous amounts.
On the performance side, the engine revs much more quickly. On a side to side comparison the engine revs up nearly twice as quick. This helps give a sportier feel i find, which is nice in a small car.
For the balance issue shouldn't the balance shaft be able to negate the poor balance of the engine. That is what the balance shaft was made for. Wouldn't the massive flywheel just keep it more drivable and easier to take off road?
One thing to watch out for is that the flywheel can break if to much is taken off. Justyracer told me he learned the hard way so be wary.

mm we're going a little off-topic haha But I've also been thinking to lighten my flywheel, because we are racing the Justy. So I'm wondering if anybody knows how much you can shave of a Justy flywheel? (EDIT: so it's still save to drive.. at 6 , 7k RPM) (in my opion it's a very simple flywheel that easily can be shaven down) Or should I try to contact Justyracer? Greetz from Holland, Ricardo

depending on what turbo you are going to use but i could make one up for you without the turbo flange so all you have to do is make that then send it to the welding shop. the manifold JD made works well on the first gens nice and tight to the engine cuz there isent much room there
