I mounted mine in the same place and can see it fine, although i usaully have to compensate by a couple psi because of the angle. to fill in the corners i used bondo and then painted the trim piece, it turned out ok. My oil pressure peaks at around 22- 27 psi when warm running on 10-40. farm4.static.flickr.com/3036/2979619949_0a56d6fa78.jpg

My oil pressure peaks at around 22- 27 psi when warm running on 10-40. Why so low? -worn pump? -worn bearings? -hungry turbo that we're still waiting to hear about? You can blame J for spillin' the beans! stacks Hey stacks - do you have numbers or a general range for a good healthy oil pressure in a Justy engine? It just occurred to me that I am used to oil pressure gauges that have a range from "L" to "H" versus actual PSI. I use 20/50 in the summer (currently 35C outside) and 10/40 in the winter (in my last Justy, will continue with this one). Anyone see any problems with this? Still waiting for my parts (fuel filter, dizzy cap/rotor, plugs, wires, engine mounts, dizzy gasket, valve cover gasket, etc etc) to show up so I have been cleaning the car like mad and I have a dirt driveway now (was concrete). I Seafoamed the engine and it runs much better now, the miss is less pronounced and it doesn't die when I come to a stop all the time anymore. I need to start a page for this car I guess...

You can blame J for spillin' the beans! stacks Not sure why it is that low. Could be many things such as bearings, cheapo princess auto gauge, leaking gauge, worn pump, other oil leaks or just mysterious oil pressure vanishing act switch. I am currently dissecting the engine and will be trying to figure this out. sorry for the highjack, but also on the prior post to this one i found 10 -40 to thick. It was fine in the summer but thorugh the winter it seemed hard on the engine, mind you i was dealing with -40 degree tempurates.

I have run 10W-30 or 10W-40 in the wintertime with no problems. Now I use 5W-40, a bit thinner...onsk maybe try this oil. The coldest temps we ever see here are -10 to -20 F, but those are rare and infrequent. At -40F I would even venture outside to start the car...that is nasty cold!! oil must be damn-near solid at that point.

well i to put in the oil pressure gage. all was good till yesterday morning. i was driving around and than bam no pressure and i was smoken. turns out the plastic line got a hole in it right at the compression fitting i even had a section of fuel line like eporter123 did i think it was from all the forward and backward motion of the engine. it happened while i was on a paper route. i fixed that with a plug to block off the hole. than this morning the light bulb blew out in the gage. what a cheep set up that was. i got it at napa. dont buy the 15 dollar one. im going to use hi pressure line this time. and put in a new bulb. ill have pics of the line and how it split up the center.

So i installed a new oil pressure gauge and what the normal pressure? i have a 93 DL. I have a '93 DL and my oil pressure runs right at 40-43 psi when traveling (warm) more when cold, at idle it goes down to 18-20 psi. I consider myself quite fortunate, knock on wood. I've changed my oil every 1500-2000 miles since I've had it, sure can't hurt.

Well, I was alway taught in trade school that you only need 10 psi per 1000 rpm....So at 3000 rpm, 30 psi is alright...6000 rpm, 60 psi....etc...any more than that, within reason, you should be golden..

This is verbatim from subaru.
"Minimum oil pressure at 1500 RPM should be 30PSI and 47PSI at 3000 RPM with oil temperature at 172-180F (78-82C)"
Sounds pretty demanding... Subaru also recommends 5W30 unless you drive highway, then it should be 10W30 or 10W40.

So I bought a 3 piece gauge for my justy but I was wondering about the temp gauge where does it hook up at? I have a 90 carb and I was thinking does it go into the intake manifold under the thermo stat?

Can you post a pic of the temp gauge you got? From my understanding you need attach the gauge to one of the radiator houses. The exact location doesn't matter as long as it doesn't come lose and you can run the wire in a way that makes sense. Closer to the engine outlet the better for a more accurate reading of engine temp
