So for those of you that have been around for a while you might remember me. I bought my first Justy back in the winter of 2005. I loved it a lot. it was a 93 2WD that i used and abused a lot and that served me so well. after all the work that i put into it it was stolen from me after a year and a half. i still dont get why people would steal such a crappy car that has no worth to anyone but me. From that day on i knew that i needed to get another Justy because they are the neatest little cars ever. Well this Christmas i was lucky enough to get one. My wonderful girlfriend and future wife bought me a 88 4WD justy for my present. this was a shock to me because we are both young and have little money so this is something that is out of her price range for a present. well anyway now i have a justy and i love it so much. Only thing is that it is in need of a lot of mechanical work. the body is great and there is only a little bit of body work needed on the fenders ( can see in the picture) other than that the body is straight and clean. there is a nice knocking sound in the engine and im hoping that it is minimal in work. the good news is that i dont need this to be my daily driver for a long time so i can park it and put some hours and the money that i have into it. I would love to get some help from you guys on here that have a lot of experience with the Gen1 cars because i am not that familiar with carborated engines. i do have a mechanic friend that will be helping me out alot. thank you for your interest and i will post more pictures as i take them Jared

so there is another can of worms that i have opened with this car now. last night when i was sitting in it think about how great it is i came across some electrical problems that are going to be fun to figure out.
first off it was 11 degrees out and there is fresh snow on the road but just sitting in the drivers seat(which is horribly bent) i felt warm and happy.
Ok now to the problems. the stereo which is aftermarket only will come on when the lights are on. and im talking the headlights. it can be the parking lights but some sort of lights must be on in the front for the stereo to power up. doesnt make sense to wire your radio to the lights but maybe the guy did. who knows.
the other problem is that if i leave the Top Left Fuse in the board then the brake lights stay on all the time. hopefully just a bad switch in the brake pedal it self. if you guys have any answers for me on this thank you in advance. and ill keep reading the old electrical problems!

More Pictures. all the work that has been done on the car so far was by the previous owners. if anyone knows about this car then tell me about it please! cause it was from washington before it came here to California. give me some comments and what you guys think it needs. have some ideas forming in my head now but i would love to have some ideas from you guys. nothing like a little snow for the 4wd justy! the stupid tint that i am going to get rid of. and thats the japanese name on it. you can see how bent the driver seat is here. and my extra parts that came with the car

On the last picture showing all your stuff, there is a throttle body in behind the seat, beside the tote. That looks like a TBI setup from a honda. -Terry

ive got both of the same electrical problems. The brake light just turned on not too long ago for no reason. I wired the constant 12 v for the deck with the white/blue wire. the on/off power was red/blue striped, but not 100%. Theses are my only electrical problems. i cant see how there realated, but maybe they are.

so we just got done pulling the engine out so that we can better diagnose the problem that the car is having. was freezing cold out but wasnt too bad at all once we figured out where all the mounts were.
does anyone want to give some pointers on where to look for problems that would come out of that great knocking sound? also one thing different about this knock from others that i have been reading about is that it gets louder when it is at higher RPMs. going to post pictures soon and work on it more tomorrow!

so needless to say the engine is now out and waiting for the weather to warm up. it was not too much fun to full the engine when it was sub freezing the whole day! but it had to be done because now i am back in school and i will only have weekends to work on the car. thank you for the advise on where to look once i get everything opened up. do you think it is worth it to do the compression test still even if i am planning on doing a rebuild on the engine?

Progress!
have not talked about the project in a while but work has been done!
-Bought a new long block engine! only 40k miles on it (getting it next weekend) -Started to work on the wiring (Top secret so i cant tell you too much right now) -Cleaned out the engine bay and tranny - ordered new clutch, water pump rebuild kit, timing belt and tensioner.
Needless to say i cant wait to get it all together and get it back into the car.
One question for you guys. has anyone ever seen the ball bearings in the pilot bearing get crushed up and mangled? this happened to me and was rather shocking.
Pics to come soon! ;D ;D ;D

More work has been done to the justy! so i finally have to work on the justy and wanted to give you all an update. clutch is in the new motor, timing belt and tensioner are on. finished the water pump rebuild and there were lots of surprises there. i thought that the water pump would be ok considering the great condition of the rest of the engine. as you can see there is lots of rust!! but it came off pretty easily. the only hard part was the oil seal that put up a good fight i sanded everything down so there is a nice smooth surface now. a lot cleaner and I'm really happy that i made sure to do this 22 dollar preventative maintenance!

so new news! today i got the justy running again! i know that it has been 7 months or so but that is what school away from home will do to you. but the engine is in and it turned over and ran today! there is still some electrical stuff to work out and things to put back together but i know that soon it will be back on the street! i am in need up an idle up solenoid cause i broke mine in the process of engine installation. also there are most likely a few other odds and ends i might need so if anyone has a parts car with somethings still on it let me know. thanks!!

Here are some older pictures of what i have been doing with the justy. When i took out the engine i make sure to clean the bay really nicely. This was easy enough but it made for a desire to wire tuck the engine bay! this sounded good at the time but it has been a little bit of a nightmare but still a good learning experience. hope you like what you see. it is not finished yet but getting a lot closer! The main reason for this desire to destroy my wire harness was dude to the ugly loom that runs along the top of the bay at the firewall. as you can see it does make it look nicer when the bay is empty but it is a lot harder to notice when it has everything back in it! Had to repaint the battery stand to stop the rust. Before After thoughts and comments greatly appreciated Jared

Looking very clean, Jared. I'll have to get a picture of my battery stand, yours looks great in both before and after; I think it will last forever now. Put it all back together without any oil leaks and you can probably keep the car that clean or close to it! Keep up the great work! -Danimal

Looking nice Jared, that engine bay looks spotless. It's amazing what some TLC can do to a car!

So bought some more things for the justy! getting excited to work on it cause it has been too long in the making. Picked up some raammat BXT from Rick over at www.raamaudio.com , he is the nicest guy that i have talked to and he cares so much about his customers, a rare thing in todays world. Going to make the care a lot quieter and bearable to drive on the freeway which i am looking forward to. Also looking to buy some power door locks to make things easier for me. and i figure that while i am in the doors i may as well do that upgrade now. anyone have a source for a reasonably priced kit that is not china junk? i was looking at some at a1electric.com specifically this product. www.a1electric.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AEOS&Product_Code=W01-RF104 imput would be great! ill add some more pictures soon of how clean this justy really is so you can really be mad stacks ;D
