Ok I am new here. Just bought a 90 Subaru Justy 1.2l carb.
I started having an issue last night. Have not had it during the day with the lights off. Don't know if it was a weather (cold) issue. Or an electrical issue with the lights being on or not. But I was driving and would push the clutch in and the car would shut off. It would start back up just fine. Then would drive again for a while and sometimes when I would go to shift it would shut off. I could hear a relay click and dont know if that has anything to do with it. Or if it is my ignition or what.
I just need some place to start to look for the problem Thanks!

dose it sputter out or just die instantly? have you checked your plugs and cap maybe shot some carb cleaner down its throat . the relay may be the fuel pump it will turn off if theres no cam signal to prevent fires

nope no sutter or anything just poof its off. Don't have a chance to hit the gas and give it more It just turns off. That is why my 1st thought is electrical. I just changed the plugs...not the wires (they are a little hard to find here, but will get some today) So you thinking it might be a timing issue? Was going to get the timing belt changed here before too long. I had just bought this not too long ago and it had been sitting and all the belts were pretty cracked etc.

No she idles like a watch. No sputter or anything like that. And it has not done it when sitting in the drive way just idling it has only done it when I was driving. I have thrown some Carb cleaner in the 1st tank and still have to go through it. I have some more I was going to add to the next. I have not changed the fuel filters. That is something else I should do ,but this was a glaring problem that just popped up the night before I posted. Like I said I just bought it. I have had it for about 2 weeks so far.

I have replaced the fuel filters and spark plug wires. It is still doing this. Where are these switches and fuses that I should look @?

the stop fuse is for the brake lights. likely it doubles for something else too. dont quote me on that but often times it handles signals, reverse lights and other "rear" lighting.

The stop fuse also feeds some interior lights and the engine computer (On carb's with the EFC)
