Hey I need to change out my driver's side and passenger side motor mounts, as well as the pitch stopper, because the bushings in all of these are virtually nonexistant. I've looked all over for new motor mounts, and can only find them on Subaru OEM parts website, but they are very expensive (about $200 for the 3 I mentioned above; I could buy a complete rebuilt cylinder head for less than that!). Does ayone know where a guy can find motor mounts and not pay an arm and a leg for dealer-priced parts? What about those universal rubber bushing replacement kits? Anyone tried these? Because they are only about $35. Any Help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I redid my motor mounts with a rubber boat roller I found at princess auto. I found a link to the same thing. www.cerka.ca/comersus7f/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=115258Cut it into two inch section, then hollowed out the dogbone and it fit perfectly inside. Then i took a 3/4 inch spade drill bit and bored the center hole bigger to accommodate the stock metal spacer. It was also the perfect diameter of the side engine mount. However the center spacer is slightly smaller in diameter so a 5/8 inch spade drill bit was used. Engine is extremely solid, no movement. Makes driving a lot better no engine jumping around ever time you push the clutch or let off the gas. Very recommended!

Nice, let us know how it holds up.
I just swapped my poly filled fender mount out for the original rubber one. There was just too much vibration transmitted at idle. The steering wheel shook, and things rattled a bit.
Going with new rubber like you have would probably get you somewhere in between old worn out mount, and too stiff filled poly mount. Hopefully it'll hold up.
You should replace the rubber on the "pitching stopper" between the back of the engine and the firewall, right below the windshield. That was the main cause of my engine's moving around.
That and the torn lower 4wd mount that still hasn't been fixed...

onsk8, You're quite the resourceful guy, eh? First power lock conversions, then custom motor mounts! Good going. How much of a mess were the old mounts? Definitely. Since there is virtually no aftermarket for our rides and mild (at best) support from the dealership, it is definitely a good practice to keep an eye out for the 'JUSTY section' at all hardware, grocery, liquor, lingerie, and boat shops... . 3 Bangin',

I did my own upper engine mount today Found a cheap mount bushing for an unknown car for ~$12,6. It was 6cm wide, while the standard bushing is around 5,5cm. I just took the "ring" from a mount I had lying around, but it up, extended it a little. So much less vibrations now

i just replaced my pitch stopper with the boat roller as well. the car feels much better but vibrates like crazy at idle. i think i'm going to drill some holes in the new mount to try and cut down on some of the vibration. other than that it works great and cost me $16 shipped and i have enough to do the other mounts as well. thanks for the tip

Easy fix to the vibrations is to turn up idle speed. Its probably not the most efficient solution, but it works. I like it when my justy shakes, gives it some character.
Update: Motor mounts still holding up well after some hard and long driving. I did notice however the dog bone slides along the rubber a bit (less then 1/4") under extreme circumstances. I don't believe this has any effect on anything though.

McMasters sells lots of poly that you can mix and pour....some paper and glue to seal up the bottom on a bench, then fillup the old bushing and let it harden.....new mounts....may be stiff but they have lots of options.

So hey, I'm new to these forums but I'm running a 94 GL 2WD manual, also with blown engine mounts, and the $16 boat roller trick sounds *awesome*. Any feedback from anyone who's been running it for a while now? And btw the link from 2008 is dead, but it sure looks like this one would do it: www.cerka.ca/catalog/hi_images/80-9202-4.jpgfrom the following page: www.cerka.ca/catalog/80.aspIt's 2" diameter anyway, which looks like the size of my bushings. So if y'all are still around, is it still in your vehicle, doing great? EDIT: whoops, in the states here and Cerka apparently doesn't ship outside of Canada, but it's a common enough part anyway...
