the temp gauge and electric fan in my 89 justy are not working. does anyone know why?

The temp gauge is controlled by a sensor that is attached to a metal pipe attached to the engine in front of the tranny. If you look down into the engine bay between the tranny and radiator you will see the pipe. The sensor is attached by a single screw clamp. The sensor wires are known to break off and the sensors get corroded. Check that.
The fan switch is probably the culprit. It is attached to the engine by the intake manifold near the thermostat housing It is a single wire switch. The switch propably is not working. First check the fan to see if the motor is good, disconnect it at the first connector and use alligator clips and wires to make a direct connection to the battery. N.B. this should only be done for a short time or you will burn the motor. If the fan spins motor is good. Trace the wires back to the switch to make sure it isn't damaged. Switch is a common offender though.
