I did this mod to my justy and I think I may have lost a bit of fuel economy. I run straight pipe exhaust which makes the little 1.2 sound a lot bigger. I had a lot of popping at low RPMs when idling down. sounds cool. I did the mod and now I have a lot less popping. I think the stock intake was sort of a bottle neck in the system. I think at this point a K&N filter might be a good addition. I've been running NGK Iridium plugs and wires since I rebuilt the engine 30,000 miles ago. always runs strong. I'm probably getting as much power as I can without head work. It's bored .20 over on the cylinders. Big Bore Justy? ;D Any ideas if there is more power to be had before diving into the head? I'm going to take it to the local American LeMans track (Miller Motor sports Park) for there open track Wednesdays. Some co-workers are going after work and i'm gonna tag along. It should be fun and i'll get to try it in the corners without worrying about sliding off the road in traffic.

zach - weird about the trimming, wonder if they changed it. You ordered the same one? You can clearly see in my pictures due to my sloppy cutting that I only cut it on one side and it fit in the airbox. Have to get another one and check it out (I have a different Justy now).
dafefman - having a straight pipe on your car does sound cool to be sure, but you are missing needed backpressure which helps your engine make torque. I gurantee you if you put a muffler on there you will press the gas pedal less taking off from stops and in general use less fuel - BUT it won't sound mean anymore... I know it sounds weird, but as a guy who likes his cars too loud and has spent time tearing around in a straight pipe Justy, I put my muffler back on because it improved performance and fuel economy. This was on my previous Justy, and it's a Magnaflow with nicely done piping. It actually sounds really cool outside of the car - but you seriously cannot hear it from inside. This car is owned by a good friend now and he stopped by over the weekend - it was interesting to hear the exhaust vs. my stock Justy as I always thought it was so quiet before but it sounds great without being annoying.

Fuel differs greatly state to state and I believe we have the worst here in CA, so that may be why I do what I do. On a recent trip to Oregon, our '09 Honda Fit Sport got around 10mpg more average running around on Oregon fuel. Seriously, I was taking photos of the fuel MPG readout - it was crazy. The fuel even smells different. Anyway, here in CA with the fuel I have, the two Justys I have owned run the best (mileage/performance) with a little bit of timing advance and on premium fuel. If I put a tank of 87 octane in, it will start to mildly detonate at WOT. When I detune the cars to stock timing in order to pass smog, there is a HUGE difference in power off the line. HUGE.

Funny you mention advancing the timing. I was at 15 btdc before I went back to stock...it performed better at stock timing haha. I have it set now to 6 btdc. But I also found out that my odo reads .1 off, so I add 10% to my shown mileage. With that math I'm getting between 36-39mpg.

That's exactly the opposite results I have seen on both of my Justys as well as about 25 other cars I have owned over the years.

I read it as first line is 0, then 5, 10 and the finally 15 is the last mark.

So we'll see how much cutting of the filter I have to do this time. I got mine from Amazon, I think it was $35.

Well Wombatsauce, I finished a replication of your mod....without the snorkle removal. Unfortunately, my k&n mod took quite a bit more trimming but it seems to fit it. None-the-less, it looks like shit, but it sure performs better. Acceleration seems smooth and effortless....a bit less gas is required to accelerate to speeds I hope it has a positive effect on my gas mileage too! thanks, Adam WOW I just got my filter and it's the same part number as before, but it's much larger! That sucks and I see what you mean about trimming a lot more. I will have to do it later on.

AFter a while the box cutter was getting on my nerves so I broke out the Jesus tool (read: sawzall) and that worked great

On this one I will have to cut it nearly to the filter media (1/8" inch away) to get it to fit. The airbox seems the same, but I will compare filters and boxes when my friend comes back with the '91 4x4. For me I used a hack-saw and a vise with wood pieces to hold the filter in the vise gently. Took a while but worked well.

Took a while but worked well. ALRIGHT.. I finally got my filter in over the weekend.. The new one is very different from the first one I used. Same exact part number, but it's at least 1/4" too big on all sides. I ended up using a pocket knife with a serrated blade (Leatherman Wave), another pocket knife and my Dremel with metal cutting discs. You have to be very careful with the Dremel because it melts the rubber very quickly, so I made cuts with that, hacked with the knife, back to the Dremel, etc. I also smoothed out the intake box edges and such like I did in my other car. Sounds nearly the same - makes cool induction growl around 3500-5000rpm. Best of all, I did not have to downshift to 3rd on my way up a hill I go up every day.. As far as the timing, I set both Justy's back to stock and my friend and I drove them around. It was infuriating!!! I put them both back to around 12* BTDC and the cars are fun to drive again. Your car must be haunted.

okay never i say NEVER ORDER A GREEN AIR FILTER for the multipointinjection justy's its a oval type and not a square type so its only for the carburated
i had a suzuki swift air filter and no refund and my air filter died so i cutted some peaces and put it in my old air filter element and glue it : ugly results , now i must wait for the k&n for the daewoo matiz with the same order number what the guy posted here
ill be driving with the filter i have right now it works fine but dont look like a real replacement filter
