looks like my $600 justy may need an engine rebuild (low oil pressure, sounds like rod knock, some smoke on startup)
wondering what it costs if i do it myself (well, i don't have a machine shop, so i would take parts there that needed to be machined)
thanks

I just finished a complete rebuild on a 1994 Justy 4WD. I installed a reground crank, rings, oil pump, waterpump, complete gasket set, rebuilt head (mine was cracked), balance shaft chain and guide, timing belt, thermostat and some hoses. I have $1200.00 in the rebuild with me doing all the work.
Make sure you check the oil pump shaft bore for wear on the front cover. Subaru is crazy on parts prices.
Good Luck.

wow, that's not very cheap!
what did you do about the oil pump shaft (guess that's part of the crankcase cover?) did you get a new one, or have the old one machined out and a bushing pressed in place?
thanks for the post.
