Hello Fellow 3 Bangers,
This is where I'll make an effort to share the good, the bad, and the ugly regarding my current/ongoing 'Love-Hate'   project: The #89 Car.  Finally started to upload the pics!
The #89 car- A 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD, Purchase price $480 @ 112,106 miles; in need of some 'TLC'. Ongoing plan: Daily drive it, sort it out, spiff it up, enter it in the A.M.E.C. ice race series on frozen lakes of Northern NY State. Immediately after initial rust cutting/sanding/priming, wifey exclaimed, "Why did you do THAT to a decent car!?!" Pffft. To all the nonbelievers: The end will justify the means... "Just wait 'til I build my robots, then you'll see..."

(More like, 'early days'...sanding of decals- including the factory 'RS' sticker?- as well as markings for cuts already had begun).

Pre flare prep- Cut/grind away 'muck' (had to be amputated  ), cut hood inlet, fix front dent, seal bare metal pits...

Fashion over function!?! Like I would even be able to admit that to the tough crowd around here! 
Besides a little comedic 'hot hatch to be' body styling, before glassing the scoop (pics in the works) I did cut a hood inlet, and am actually shooting for very slight efficiency gains, however tiny they may be. The limited ooomph for our beloved JUSTYs requires every helping hand we can offer. Will the decreased aerodynamics trade off on this plan? Could be... but I have a little molded acrylic back-up plan for that, in case... Bench Racingesque? Yes, sort of... but if anyone wants to lend me time on their wind tunnel and DYNO equipment, I'll take the Pepsi Challenge!
My humble Physics and DIY Automotive knowledge supports the following:
A. Cold air is more dense than warm air. Hence cool air entering the bay would be composed of more oxygen per unit volume than warm air for a better air fuel mix.
B. If I recall correctly most 3 to 4 cylinder thermostat based fans kick on at bout 200 degrees or so...
Hence, hoping for:
1. Small improvement to A/F combustion mixture.
2. Slight ease of burden on cooling system.
3. Mild decrease in draw of electrical.
Other Reasons (Definitely open jury here!):
4. Planning ahead (If the stock carb gives up) for alternate carb clearance in the brainstorm of some Weber or clone downdraft variant. Measuring some adapter/spacer and carton aircleaner combos from similar apps, I came up with about a 35mm addition to height. I am fairly sure I estimated the cut-out location right for this... I hope!
5. Unlikelyish Pipe Dreams of blowthrough carb turbo shenanigans... clearance/allowance of top mount intercooler to remove front mount IC damage risk at rallycross/ice events.
6. We mentioned the sheer mall racer hotness of hood scooping already, right?!

'IN PROGRESS' - Phase 2
Glass/epoxy/attach fender flares and hood scoop. Contrast primer coat for layer sanding. Test fit 15" wheels. New Muffler. Remove grill (for customization). Putty grinder marks, small dings, scrapes, stone chips.
