I bought my Justy a couple months ago so I didn't have to use my DD Impreza for rallyx anymore. I've already had to do tons of work on it including replacing all the suspension components on the left side (the PO slid it into a curb in a snowstorm). As you can see the paint needs a lot of work. I've been slowly wet sanding the rattlecan black of and I'm planing to spray it with clearcoat to bring back the shine in the teal. Also I'm debating if I want to repaint it two toned kind of like it is right now with the black on the bottom and teal on top. I'll update on the progress as I get further along in the project. Any ? or comments are welcome. Oh and straight pipes sound awsome on a Justy!

Welcome . As the JUSTY rally-x topic is near and dear to my heart, here are a few of my favorite links (off the top of my head) from this forum. There are plenty more... just set your search to at least '999' days instead of the default stinking 7! Although I'm not convinced the JUSTY suspension was engineered with competition in mind (plus the lack of OEM or aftermarket suspension support), it is hypothetically capable. My opinion on the matter is that, competition-wise, the JUSTYs true potential may be in kicking arse in ice/snow events... Here is board member justyracer doing it up. video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-2444140420114179295&hl=en-CA. As far as I know he has done the most JUSTY representation as far as actually 'running in competition' (as well as custom suspension mods). One of the most labor of love/properly approached rally/rally-x project was probably boardmember formulaphoto's (Flickr link: www.flickr.com/photos/formulaphoto/1333095700/. The poor guy was nearing completion on the project, when the JUSTY got t-boned (in the street). The rollcage probably saved his life! Unfortunately, he was very upset and wound up undoing most of the pics/threads on this forum. Another interesting start to a rallydirection project was boardmember fraser9764's factory JUSTY van yes.. van! It seems a few of our UK brethren had the option of JUSTYs without flip out rear windows and a spartan interior! I think his brother still toots around in it: subarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=forsale&thread=629&page=1Have fun keep us posted,

BTW ik87,
I meant to mention that the best route to teal paint shine may be 1. Clean and thorough rising 2. Hand dry. 3. Using a buffer: rubbing compound (depending on the oxidation A. heavy duty and then B. polishing - or just polishing compound if not too bad), then 4. A nice clear waxing. (Maybe go twice on steps 1 and 3). I've seen iffy results at best with just clear coat spray on top of dull finish.
Cheers,

Pete, the emblems blue because it was all messed up when I got the car so took it off and repainted it. The whole front of the car looks like it's been sandblasted with fairly good sized pebbles, even the windshield was tiny little dents in it. I think the car was driven on on a lot of dirt roads when it was in Montana.

89, I'm already having suspension problems and I've only done one rallyx with it. I almost rolled it twice on my last run for the day, when you hear the revs go up and you don't go anywhere thats a good indication the both wheels are off the ground on one side.
I can't wait to do some ice racing with it in the winter, I only got to drive it once in the snow but it handled better then my impreza even with the shotty tires.
That justyracer video is awsome does he still race a justy or was that crash the end?
Oh and I was planning to polish before the clear coat but I don't think just the polish will be enough it needs a clear coat since the factory one came off with the black.
Hey has anyone ever put a snorkel on a justy? I'm not very thrilled about the intake in the front fender.

No, a boxer will not fit in a Justy.

The factory intake works really well actually. Gets nice cold air before it can be heated by the engine bay.

Quick wipes with a laquer thinner should remove alot of the black and not the teal. Don't rub through the clear coat and you will be able to polish it back up. Obviously try it on a rocker first. Good luck!

The factory intake works really well actually. Gets nice cold air before it can be heated by the engine bay. I realize that it makes a nice cold air intake I'm just concerned about it sucking up water since the only thing protecting it is the wheel well liner and those tend to get destroyed. Plus wouldn't a snorkel look cool on the little justy?

I got some more Hellas to replace my busted stock headlights. They still need to be wired and aligned so there just roughly in there. I like it but I know a lot of justy purists won't so say what you will they were cheaper and a lot easier to find then OEM.

well I'm finally getting around to updating this I've been busy lately but I've gotten some work done. I fond a fix for the plastic on the hatch. I can add more details upon request. I also got most of the black repainted minus the front bumper and a few trim pieces and I removed the moldings off the side. I also added some monster mud flaps that I made from rubber that I found on the side of the road. Ghetto I know but free is the perfect price for something going on a 500 dollar car. Lots of other minor things have been done but I'm to lazy to list them here. So as usual ?'s comments feel free to post.

Oh and the trim on the hatch only looks crooked because of the lighting

Ok so here we go this is how I fixed the hatch trim. The new piece is actually a stick on door molding my brother got when he worked at an Isuzu dealer. First I cut up the stock trim and used the parts that the license plate bulbs screw into to secure them to the hatch. You could use a small nut and bolt but this was handy and it works. The passenger side did require more cutting so it would fit around the wiper motor. Then I bolted a small piece of steel to the hatch using the bolts that secure the handle and bent it at a sharp angle over the top of the handle so that it directs the moulding over the handle. The metal is the gray piece above the handle. Then after all that is in place you can just stick the moulding on and your done. It's not the greatest fix in the world but the price was right and it looks pretty good to me.

I thought I should post a pic of the sweet coolant bottle we made. The stock one came off the stupid little bracket during a rallyx and melted on the manifold. So I got a stainless bottle from walgreens and had my brother braze some fittings on it.

Careful with those "stainless" bottles. They're only stainless coated. I learned that on a hike one day when I got a mouthful of rust flakes.

Thats awesome I smell a lawsuit. Don't worry this one really is stainless otherwise it would already be rusted cuz we took the coating off the outside.

Update Time! After many hours spent with a blowtorch and a scraper I have all of the sound deadening removed from the floor. And as for the paint I wanted to do something a little different but also wanted it to go with the black and teal. I also painted my winter wheels for a little contrast.

Good progress man, I think it looks way better than when you first got it. I like the coolant bottle idea, that's superior macgyvering. I like the color scheme too. Nice job.

The car does look great! You've changed my mind about even liking the GenII body style; It's that last pic that did it. It is the first 4door that I have liked the look of since Streetman's! Glad to see your antenna back on! Nice job on the flooring! When is the first race? -Danimal

Thanks guys it's good to hear all my hard work is not in vein. That antenna is actually a civic antenna that I made fit into the justy mounting plate. I've actually done a couple races with it already and I was able to beat some WRX's and STi's even with my almost bald tires. The next race isn't until september but I should be kickin some ass now that I have a new set of winterforce. I still have some interesting things planned for the Justy so stay tuned.

Well I've been busy working on the Justy this last week. I spent three full days pulling out the dash, flocking it and putting the dash back in. For those of you that don't know what flocking is it's a fiberous covering thats ment to reduce glare from the dash on race cars, but mostly I just used it to cover all the cigarette burns that someone put in my dash. I think I angered the Justy in the procuss because since I finished it she started leaking oil out of the distributor and my starter just went. So it is now a lawn ornement until I can get parts.
