My 93 justy is leaking just a little water at times. I can see a little drip from underneath on what I think is the water pump. My Chiltons tell you how to remove the water pump but it tells it like you already know how and are just wanting a refresher. Has anyone got a good picture break down and instructions they could scan and send or post somewhere for everybody to use. From the little my book shows it looks like it might be a bugger to get to.

The problem is, that this can't be done with the engine installed afaik... So if it's not too bad I wouldn't do anything about it and just check more often that there's enough water in it.

From experience the gasket is not usually the issue. The pump can be changed without removing the engine. Just loosen the engine mount nearest the pump and slightly jack up the engine carefully. The gasket is only a part of the issue. The mechanical seal no 7 and the washers nos 3, 5, & 6 in the diagram and the should be changed as well. These stop the coolant from going into the oil. The kit carries all these parts as a set. The timing belt and pulleys will need to come off though.
Driving it like that is playing with your engine. Rule of thumb is that if it is dripping coolant out of the car most likely it is seeping into the engine oil as well. The hardest part to remove is no 7. It took us a while to remove and we eventually had to destroy it and remove it in pieces.

Why would one have to remove the timing belt?

I don't think it is leaking in the oil. I don't see any of the usual evidence of water in oil. Does the oil pan have to come off and get to this from inside or can this be removed from outside? L.D.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I cannot remember definitely why we removed the timing belt. It was more than three years ago. The crankshaft pulley came off to remove the engine's front (belt) cover. I think I had a play in the lower timing sprocket so that may have been the reason to remove the timing belt There was also an issue with space so to avoid damaging the belt we may have removed it. Age catching up with my old brain. No the crankcase (oil pan) does not need to be touched to change the water pump.
