hello all, i am new here, i am mathew from the netherlands and i have a problem with our justy. we have this car for 9 years now and we never had engine problems untill last week. after i welded our justy, i wanted to drive with the car. it fired up perfectly but after 10 meters it just stoped and never started again. what did i tryed: i placed a sparkplug directly on the coil but it didnt spark, so i replaced it, but still no result. i had to replace the ignition to because i damaged it with the disasambly. but still no spark. i checked all the connectors and they are in good condition. i followed the cables from the ignition module(the little box next to the coil) and they ended up in a ecm under the dasboard. also the cables of the ignition ends up here. because the igintion has no "vacuum advance" i think the ecm calculates the advance, i am right here? my question is, how can check that the ecm is broken, and do i have a crankshaft sensor of something else? the car is a 89' justy 1.0 with the parkinglights outside the headlamp. i hope you can help me. greetings. edit: maybe it is usefull to say that i dont have the "check engine" light burning and sometimes the coil gets warm and drains the battery. i also dont see a led light ore something burning at the ecm, i thoughd i have read something like that here.

update: i unscrewed the 2 bolts from the ecm, when the car is "on" there is a red light continous burning, when i disconnect the 2 connectors on the left the light is still burning. disconnecting the last connector on the right and the light dies. i unsrewed the box but there is nothing burned ore something.

Could you give some more info? '89 without any vac advance would be MPEFI (yes?). Check the first connector form the distributor for broken wires, corroded pins, and pins backing out. I suggest this as you say it was running fine, then stopped and gets no spark. No exciter signal would be my first guess.

i deleted some posts to keep it clean.
Our justy is carbuated, looks like it has an injector in the carburator, but its not a MPEFI thats what i thougd. the connector i in good condition. with a voltmeter i checked the wires. the signal from distributor goos into the ecu so that part is oke. the ignition module has 4 wires: - red/black > gives 12 volt when the key is on - black with red dot > ground - yellow/with with red dot > gives 1.8 volt cranking 2.2 - green/yellow with red dot > gives 7,8 volt drops to 5 when cranking
i think the ignition module doesn't get the correct signals, but i really dont know where to find it. it sparks when i disconnect the connector on the ignition module..
when nobody can help us over here.. we have to see a mechanic..

May be a stupid question, but have you checked your fuses? i know that the ignition Turn Back Fuse, will make it so you dont have spark at all (just solved this for myself). we had this fuse blow out when the car is in reverse. i am still looking into what would cause this issue, hope that this might help. slim chance i know

thanks for your reply, the first thing i did was checking the fuses.. you mean those under the hood at the right side, nex to the coil? those are oke.. today i bought another ECM.. still no spark.. d@mn..
when the car is ON after a while the coil gets verry hot.. thats also isnt really normal i unsrewed the ground connection at the engine, when i make ground it sparks.. the coil doesnt get hot anymore so i quese the problem is with the ground. anybody knows how this has to be?

the justy is up and running.. i had damaged the wire from the braking lights when i welded the car. thats why the fuse was broken.. but without the fuse from the braking lights the car doesnt run! i never saw a car before that doesnt run with a broken fuse from the braking lights.
but i runs perfectly so i am verry happy, thanks everybody

Glad to hear it but guessing that a wrie is still crossed somewhere; it ought to run without brake lights, I have had that fuse blow and the car still ran. Danimal

good to hear you found your starting problem , FYI: it's always a good idea to unhook your battery, both cables, when welding on any car that has a computer controlled engine, the halo of energy can possibly ruin the circuitry inside the ecu
