A guy in upstate new york just swaped a sti drivetrain into a gen2 justy. Pretty neat, says it goes like a raped ape. Minimal amount of money was spent also. Next project? it is rolling on coilovers for an impreza which involved welding the shock towers. the header/uppipe were custom made because a stock header was too low. the radiator is from a saab. the rear suspension is adjustable trailing links and such since the stock wouldnt work. Wheels are 16 inch jetta stockers. Who says you cant fit a boxer into a justy?

I know it's considered an abomination around here, and the time and fab work involved would be phenominal. But is that not the most fun looking winter car ever?!?! My god if the VCCD worked I cant imagine Id ever stop driving it. Just strap on the depends and go

Ah ah ah ah, what my tagline says is "won't", not can't. There is a big difference between won't and can't. Won't means my size twelve feet won't fit into a pair of size nine shoes, unless you take an axe to each foot and cut off all of my toes. I think this blue Justy is missing a few toes. I'm happy for the guy in New York #1 because my family is from upstate and #2 because he actually did it and appears to have completed his project. How many of the project cars from these boards are ever finished? Slightly more than zero. No Imaginarious, I'm not talking about you.
Like I said, good for him. Now will somebody get a street legal Justy to do a sub 14 second quarter mile with the EF12 please?

This swap was not just done, I found it on the internet a while ago, even before I got my Justy.. He definitely knows what he is doing, has the proper equipment, and obviously has a ton of extra cash to throw around.. He also has done a Ford Festiva with a V8 swap.. So basically where there is a will, know-how, and money, there is a way.. (Remember the show with Jesse James, Monster Garage?) On his cardomain page he talks about how hard the WRX swap was as well.. It wasn't just a simple swap that's for sure.. I think its very cool, and all highly impressive, but don't get it twisted, something like this sure isn't like swapping Honda engines... www.cardomain.com/id/THEONE-ORIGINALSPS. Different strokes for different folks.. How does the other one go? One man's trash is another man's treasure? So really it depends on who you ask whether or not the Justy is special or just another econobox.. Personally I wouldn't call a car that you don't see too often "expendable" though.. I'd judge it on how easily parts can be acquired.. But then again I don't have 3 good conditioned Justy's around To me, its one of the smallest cars I know about that came with an optional 4wd... That's why I think it is cool to see that some people rally them, regardless of the beatings they take.. That goes with the territory of rallying.. When you own a car you get to choose how to treat it! -Drew

Ahhhh thank you for the link Drew. Now that you mention it and provide the link I can see now that this is in fact a car we had all seen a long time ago. So it is not another boxer swap successful, it is merely the same one from before. So that's a total of two front engined boxer/Justy swaps we've seen completed. And both required nearly complete suspension redos and much cutting of the original chassis. Almost not Justys at that point. A very nice car indeed. Though this car is not "resent"[sic] recent I don't resent the owner building it.

I knew it looked familiar (the teal lookin jobbie). There is a couple others out there..somewhere www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad-ekKHCYrY&feature=related. My final thought would be leaning more towards an 88 gl hatch a'la ej25 swap. Methinks it be a more straight forward/less cutting & fab work......and totally awesome

yeah i know of like 4 i think. -the teal one i posted -the first one done (the red gen1) with all the youtube vids -the monster justy -the one in the vid posted
i have heard of others being done just havent seen the pictures or videos.
Almost no Justy huh? So they swapped the drivetrain and did some mods to frame. Big deal. still has a justy body still has most of the frame, 90% of the interior and all body panels lined up. Plus the firewall still has a justy vin, dosent get more legit then that.
Why does people modding justy make you so defensive? Again its just a stupid econobox.

Not sure if this is a for real WRX Ralley Justy or just a modified hood. What's up with the roof scoop?? Attachments:

Again the justy is no special car. Xtremzj, it is not a stupid econobox even to you! It is an expendable little car in which one finds great fun to rally, no? Or, look at it this way: the fact that it is a worthless econobox is what makes it 'special' to you. Has two weather oar nought the Justy with the swapped engine is a Justy: it all depends on what you think of as being the 'car'. The engine and gearbox and wheels and all the functionality of the machine or the facade of the car's physical attributes? Not sure if this is ... just a modified hood. What's up with the roof scoop?? Perhaps sadly the type of facade about which I am speaking. I do like the boxer swap because it looks to have been done well, but I wonder what became of the poor parts that were in the Justy in the first place! The photo documentation in the links above is quite detailed so it is a great example of how much work is involved in making the swap. I'm guessing that most of the folks who ask about making such a swap within one of their first few posts are not prepared or skilled enough to complete such an undertaking. Happy Birthday, Xtremzj. How are your Justys doing? Danimal

they are ok, one runs. the others just sit. Thanks for asking, just hooked up passenger foot fan and high beam switches.
The roof vent is to do what its called, it lets fresh air in the cabin when driving on hot or dusty days. its my next mod this summer

NC Justy
I'm pretty sure that Justy you posted is a car that ran in Quebec rallycross and rallysprint. It's not a fully prepped stage rally car, but looks fun none the less.
If it's the same car (pretty sure) it was pretty stock under the hood and in the corners (stock suspension). Lots of fun looking bling, but basically just a Justy doing what a Justy can do!

We measured up the engine bay and to paraphrase SeattleJusty "no a EJ motor will not fit in a GenI justy!" the GenI's are about 8 cm shorter between the firewall and the front sub-frame/rad support. If you look at the pics of that ej install, there's not 8 cm to spare!
You could fit it in if you moved the firewall back, that's not a huge job to add in as the tunnel in the GenII's still has to be widened to fit the tranny. Things start to get a bit more complicated as you also lose some space between the bumper and the rad support in the GenI, and that's where the Saab rad was put in the above mentioned 'conversion'. That leaves you mounting the rad in the back seat!
So yes it will fit, but you'd better be a fine fabricator, and know where to source things like new steering racks (since the justy rack and firewall location will no longer work!) Then you need to understand things like bumpsteer and how to deal with that since you will be changing the steering geometry.
Oh yeah and our course measurments seemed to indicate the axles would be running a pretty harsh angle at the outboard joints, meaning you would have to lessen the available steeing angle to not blow up the joints.
