Finally after the motor rebuild its down to timing. Iv run into a problem. well i have the piston at TDC on the side closest to the alternator side. but what i was told that the piston on the tranny side needs to be TDC. Chiltons does not give us a cylinder numbers or even tell us what piston needs to be at TDC.

**mxnick83** , I haven't greeted you before, welcome. the cylinder order: (Cam pulley) - 1 - 2 - 3 - (Distributor) If I recall correctly, the timing marks on the crank and cam all line up when cylinder #3 is TDC starting the firing stroke and the distributor should be pointing at #3 -update- I do not recall correctly www.dustysjustys.com/service.htm-hope this helps -RRJ

Only marginally better than the Chiltons is the arrc online manual if you need (from the shared automotive online manual linked at the bottom of my posts). you can get service data for almost any USDM car. And free is nice as well. Oddly enough I get the best results for any model vehicle by searching for the first model year (like 1990 for the gen-2 Justy).-RRJ

Throw the timing light on the #1 plug wire.

Use these marks to put the top and bottom end of the engine in time with each other: Once both ends are lined up with the corresponding marks, put the timing belt on. Then finish putting together the engine/components. Check and properly set your valve lash adjustment and then replace the leaky top cover. Now you can use a timing light attached to#1 plug lead and gently turn the spark distributer to change the ignition timing(at what point during the engine’s revolution the spark reaches the combustion chamber). You ought to be able to have the Justy running and even ignition timing set close before you need the strobe light. Danimal

Most common problem is the igniter has gone bad. You need to check every component in the ignition system to determine what has failed. Is this thing carbureted or efi?

Start with testing the basics. Power to the distributor and coil, at least 12v while cranking. The igniter is triggered by the computer, you will need to run a test light backwards in order to test for the signal. If signal is good and no spark, replace igniter. If no signal, replace distributor. If it still doesn't work well maybe there's some other issues unique to your car. Terry
